Troll C-3

The Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has launched an investigation into an incident which involved a serious personal injury on Troll C during 9 May.

A roustabout was crushed between containers on the loading deck of the StatoilHydro-operated installation in the North Sea. No visible external injuries were observed.

However, the victim was taken to the sick bay for examination and observation, and flown by search and rescue helicopter to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen for further observation.

The initial diagnosis was light injuries, but this changed later on the same day to several serious injuries. The victim’s condition was stable.

Three PSA personnel flew to Troll C on the morning of 10 May to investigate the incident. Their job includes clarifying the chain of events and identifying direct and underlying causes.

The investigation team will also assess possible similarities with earlier incidents. A report is to be produced, which will be posted to the PSA website.

In addition to conducting its own investigation, the PSA has been asked by the police to provide assistance with their inquiries.
