Norwegian workers are among 80 former employees of ConocoPhillips who are understood to be suing the oil company over health issues that include cancer, skin conditions and memory loss increasingly blamed on exposure to chemicals while working around plant.

American lawyers in Texas have filed suit for workers who say the company did not duely pursue needed maintenance and safety equipment that might have spared them the ill health and early death.

“We feel we get nowhere in Norway (apart from) slamming are heads against the wall,” former Ekofisk worker Jan-Erik Tandberg told Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.

“People are dying continuously,” Tandberg said.

The newspaper reported ConocoPhillips in Norway was not aware of the U.S. legal action by press time.
