StatoilHydro has reported a commercially viable discovery in the North Sea, where the Katja prospect has proven 80 million barrels of oil equivalent.
The find, understood to be mostly gas, is just 11 kilometres from the large producing gas field Oseberg Sør and its export links. A sub-sea tie-back to those links is expected.
Operator StatoilHydro (with 49 percent) is joined at production licence PL 104 by ConocoPhillips (2.4 percent), ExxonMobil (4.7 percent), Total (10 percent) and stately entity Petoro and its 34 percent stake.
