StatoilHydro has struck more oil at the Pan-Pandora discovery near the Visund field in the North Sea, Norwegian officials announced Wednesday.
Well 34/8-14 A explored to the north of an earlier find and found a 53-metre oil column — six times that of original discovery 34/8-14 S this autumn.
A new “downflank sidetrack” well, 34/8-14 C, will be drilled in the same segment. The drill bit has yet to find water, indicating a sizeable find.
It’s the 16th exploration well in production licence PL 120, a license award of the 1985-era 9th licensing round.
The Borgland Dolphin drill facility will now drill the sidetrack well.
Partners in PL 120 and 120B are StatoilHydro (operator) with 59 percent, Petoro (17 percent), ConocoPhillips (13 percent) and Total (11 percent).
