A Norwegian rig broker and his institutional investors have raised $110 million to launch a new offshore construction and maintenance company to be spearheaded by ships that “jack up”, it was learned Friday.

Seajacks International has ordered two maintenance “jack-up” ships, according to newspaper Dagensnæringsliv.

“In the English, Dutch and Danish sectors (of the Southern North Sea) there are 400 platforms and over 1,000 production wells in water up to 50 metres,” Seajacks founder, Erland P. Bassøe, is quoted as saying.

According to the paper, Seajacks has ordered two, $112-million ships from Lamprell Energy in Dubai for delivery in 2009.
