Noble Drilling has enlisted the help of STX yard of Korea and Dutch construction firm Huisman Equipment to build a new $585 million Globetrotter class “ultra-deepwater” drill ship.
“We are confident we will put this unit under contract before year-end," Noble chief exec David W. Williams was quoted as saying.
In response to supplier demands, the supplier contracts contain two phases build around fixed-prices. When the hull and propulsion are installed at STX’s new facility in Dalian, China, the ship will steam on its own power to Huisman in the Netherlands for the commissioning of topsides.
Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2011, or just as the last of the world backlog of drillers are due to enter service.
Meanwhile, Noble has secured priced options to build three additional Globetrotter drill ships.
The 620-foot long Globetrotter drillship will drill in up to 10,000 feet (3300 metres) of water and into the earth’s crust down to a vertical depth of 40,000 ft.

Noble Drilling is not the best company to work, benefits by Noble are bad, lot of people leaving European Division of Noble Drilling due to low British Pound (salaries are payd in GBP) and majority of crews live in Euro monetary zone... Top management doing NOTHING to solve this situation. There comes more and more green hands and Noble Drilling becomes low-attitude companu like Ensco.
